Traveler discomfort, signaling failure, technical incident or suspicious package… Every morning, it’s the same story: your metro forces you to justify your delay to your employer. Here are the Paris metro lines most affected by the disruptions.
The price of RATP subscriptions may increase, but this does not prevent users in Ile-de-France from encountering disruptions on their transport line almost every morning. When it is not a technical incident, the train driver announces a signaling failure, a suspicious package, passenger discomfort or even a stop for “regulation”. The causes are multiple, the waits often very long, forcing users to call (sometimes in the car) their employer to warn them of the umpteenth delay of the week.
Exasperated by these repetitive disruptions, Roméo, a young engineer, decided to list on his Twitter account @MetroQuality real-time traffic information messages shared on the RATP website. And after a break from social networks, this data processing specialist is back. “After overcoming technical difficulties due to infrastructure changes on the RATP side, the account is back to inform you about the quality of Parisian public transport!” he announces. This is how he lists the worst lines of the week, taking into account the number of incidents over the last 7 days, the number of hours of total disruption as well as the timetable the most problematic. Thus, as of November 12, “the worst line of the last 7 days was the RER A, which recorded 39 incidents with a total disruption of 77 hours and 7 minutes.
The other metro line singled out by Metro Qualité is line 13, serving the Châtillon-Montrouge metro stations as far as Asnière or Saint-Denis. For example, as of November 11, 15 incidents have been recorded over the last 7 days, mainly during rush hours in the morning, between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. The same number of incidents was recorded on line 8 in one week with a total disruption of 20:10 hours estimated on this line, compared to more than 64 hours on line 13 of the Paris metro.
According to RATP, the number of abandoned packages jumped by 70% compared to the same period in 2022. Which, according to the group, explains the increase in the number of incidents in recent times. Added to this are the numerous renovation works as well as the extensions of metro lines which also impact the network and lead to certain station closures as was the case during the All Saints’ Day holidays for line 14.
