Pointing out that extreme temperatures affect the body’s thermoregulation system, Gencer said that heat stroke, which occurs in such a situation, is a very dangerous medical problem.
Gencer noted that the body’s thermoregulation system can be disrupted when staying in very hot weather for a long time and working in humid environments for a long time, and said, “The body can overheat more than necessary. This can cause life-threatening heart and consciousness problems. Especially elderly patients, those with chronic diseases, those who do heavy sports exercises and those who work in hot weather may lose excessive sweat and disrupt their thermoregulation level.
When the body temperature becomes too high, it becomes hot enough to disrupt brain functions. There is confusion, the heart beats fast, the kidneys begin to malfunction, and the body experiences a kind of shock. “That confusion can go as far as coma and cause serious life-threatening problems,” he said.
“YOUR BODY TEMPERATURE MAY BE DISTURBED”
Emphasizing that attention should be paid between 12.00 and 16.00 in the summer when the sun is vertical, Gencer said, “The problem is not just exposure to the sun, working in closed and hot environments can also cause heat stroke.
“There is no air conditioning and it is very hot, and if you do an activity that will cause you to exert yourself, sweat and increase your heartbeat, your body temperature may be out of adjustment there too,” he said.
