Therese Sjögran: “We haven’t been good enough”

A bright spot for the Malmö club is the qualification for the group stage in the Champions League. At the same time as the group stage puts pressure on the club as the last round is only played at the end of January when the team is usually on holiday. Already this year, the upload to the women’s league was different for the Malmö team, who played competitive matches until Christmas.

– It was probably one of the parts that affected us. At the same time, we have not performed well over time. We have too many crosses. We have lost to the top teams. I don’t just want to blame the conditions or how the league has looked or when we started, says Therese Sjögran about this year’s CL adding to that in the planning.

What will you do differently for next season?

– We’ll see about that. It depends a little on how the squad will look. We will be able to work in a different way because we are not in the Champions League (season 2024/2025 ed. note). Play young players earlier. It is such pieces that we will look at. We will lay out the plan this autumn, we are not quite ready yet, she says.

Outgoing contract

Defender Fiona Brown is the only player in the squad with an expiring contract at the turn of the year. But Therese Sjögran still believes that the squad may lose additional players.

– Most of them have contracts, but you can still lose players and you can’t fill them up. You have the players you have, but that’s how it is for all teams. It’s messy, but it’s the same for everyone, so you just have to like the situation, she says.
