Therese Johaug’s message that shocks the skiing world – now reveals in her own words: “I have to admit it”

Therese Johaug has ended her career and become a mother.
But now she is shocking the skiing world.
– I have to admit it, she says.

It was after the 2021/2022 season that Therese Johaug announced that her skiing career is over. And it’s hardly possible to end your career on a higher note. In her final season as a skier, Johaug won three Olympic golds, heralding her status in skiing history.

Therese Johaug opens for comeback

Since then, Johaug has had time to become a mother, when on May 17 – on Norway’s national day – she and her fiance Nils Jakob Hoff had a daughter. When Johaug ended her career, she was open to the possibility that one day there might be a return, especially considering that the WC 2025 is in Trondheim, thus Johaug’s home field.

And now, in a new interview with Norwegian NRK, comes the shock news, where Johaug, to say the least, opens the door for a return to skiing.

– We’ll see. I haven’t quite decided yet if there will be any more competitions, or if there won’t be. Right now I’m enjoying life as a mother. But I must admit that I do a little training on the side. Yes, I do, she says.

“Not like before”

Johaug also admits that the training has been carried out with a possible comeback in mind.

– Yes that’s how it is. I haven’t scrapped the thoughts of the WC in Trondheim completely, but right now my full focus is not there. The focus right now is on everyday life here and now, and on being a good mother, she says.

Johaug also does not go into detail about how hard the training actually is, or what she does.

– It will be a little, but it’s not like before. It is not so easy to put on jogging shoes or skis when you have to look after a little girl, she says.

During her career, Therese Johaug won a total of four Olympic golds and 14 World Cup golds.
