Frida Karlsson herself has opened up about ending her career in just two years.
But Therese Johaug doesn’t buy it.
– In that case, it surprises me, says the Norwegian.
It was earlier in the year, in the middle of Frida Karlsson’s pre-season, that the star made an unexpected announcement. Despite being only 25 years old, she already has plans to end her career in a few years.
Frida Karlsson’s plans
Frida Karlsson told us that she likes to have deadlines, and for the sake of motivation, she has decided in her head that she will end her career after the 2027 season, and it is for several reasons. Partly because the WC that year is decided in Sweden, in Falun, but also the WC is decided on Frida Karlsson’s home ground, in Sollefteå.

For Frida Karlsson, according to her own statement, it would be the perfect ending, and even though it is only a little more than two years until then, it would mean that Karlsson has time for two WCs and one more Olympics.
– It motivates me so much to be able to write that story in Falun. But that can change, Karlsson has said.
But there is one person who doubts that Frida Karlsson will really follow through on her plan – and that is Therese Johaug. In a video that VG published on its website, the Norwegian star is asked a question about what she thinks about Karlsson’s future, and says that Karlsson has far too big a winner’s skull to end his career so early.
– It surprises me if Frida Karlsson retires – without having won an individual gold in a championship. That’s how competitive I know that girl is, that it would have been strange if she did that, says Johaug.

Therese Johaug also feels convinced that Karlsson will be eager to challenge Johaug during the winter.
– I am very prepared that she will give me proper resistance. You also have Ebba Andersson and Jessie Diggins… The three are probably the strongest by far, along with Heidi Weng. They were at the top last winter, she says.
