Less than a week after the start of the new raid, the “World First Race” in World of Warcraft is over again. Team Liquid takes the win.
Even though World of Warcraft may be less familiar now, the “World First” race is always a highlight, followed by thousands of fans on Twitch. After all, the pro guilds are staging the race with casters and a big show all around them as they battle who can be the first to defeat the latest final boss on the “Mythic” difficulty.
Team Liquid has previously been a premier “World First” guild, bringing victory back to America. They were the first in the world to defeat the “Scale Commander Sarkareth” on Mythic difficulty.
You can see the video of the kill here – including the rather loud “nerd screams” as the boss finally falls. Better turn the volume down a bit if you’re kind to your ears.
The final pull starts at 05:02:30:
Why was the race so short? Blizzard wanted the race to be shorter this time. In the last “tiers” the races sometimes lasted for several weeks and not only strained the strength of the professionals, but also their private lives. Especially with the “Vault of the Incarnation” there was a great danger that the race would last into the Christmas days and you would then have to make ugly decisions between “World First” or “Family”.
The fact that the race in Aberrus is over after only 6 days seems quick in comparison.
Nevertheless, an impressive achievement that other guilds have to imitate first.
World First Kill of Sarkareth reveals legendary loot
Also confirmed by the kill was the existence of a Legendary Item that is only available to Callers. Because Team Liquid has received the quest starter item and will now work towards being the first guild to complete this quest series and equip their caller with the powerful equipment over the next few hours and days.
That only one class can get a Legendary is quite unusual and reminiscent of the early days of World of Warcraft. Blizzard is apparently remembering old virtues here, even if other classes then go “empty”.
However, datamining shows that the Legendary can buff other party members, so the impact on the caller itself is likely to be slightly less and considered more of a “buff for the party”.

Incidentally, the next WoW patch is already in the works – and will also bring a lot of new content.
