Blizzard, which gave momentum to the series with Diablo II: Resurrected, wants to carry the success of the game series to the mobile game front as well. Diablo Immortal, which has been in the closed beta testing process for nearly a year, is getting ready to be presented to the players with many new updates and improvements.
During the testing process, many improvements were made in the game such as PvP and PvE game modes, socialization and group games, battle tickets, in-game purchases, controller support, set items, while many reconstructions and improvements were made in the Cycle of Strife game mode and Paragon World system. A new Necromancer class has also been added to the game. The details shared by the game developers about the closed beta process are as follows;
Socialization and Group Play Improvements
Players stated that during the testing process, other players grouped up to get more rewards rather than socializing for challenges that give more rewards when fought as a group, and then the groups immediately dispersed. The developers are also aiming to circumvent this issue by making the rewards of solo and group challenges more balanced so that players can enjoy it equally, whether playing alone or in a group.
Raid Enhancements
Game director Wyatt Cheng stated that players who participated in the testing process liked the massive 8-player “Helliquary” raid mode. While the difficulty levels of the bosses in the mode are balanced, a new monster will be added to the game every month. There will be multiple difficulty levels for each boss, so players of all levels can enjoy this special mode with their teammates. In addition, improvements will be made in systemically more balanced grouping, matchmaking and game mode control mechanisms and visuals.
Battle Pass and In-Game Purchase Improvements
Wyatt Cheng stated that the main purpose of the game is always to win equipment by destroying the demons and to ensure that these equipment are equally accessible to every player, and that many items will be updated so that the in-game items and the content in the battle ticket do not create an unequal competition among the players. While players are satisfied with the battle pass content and in-game prices, the values and benefits offered by some items will also be improved. The dev team also realized that legendary gems encourage players to focus on a single class rather than characters from multiple classes, and by updating these items, they aim to ensure that players can play with their desired class with equal enjoyment.
Controller Support Update
Listening to the demands of the players to play the game with a controller other than the touch screen, the team added and continues to add support for many different controllers to the game during the testing process. The game will directly recognize the controller attached to the phone at the beginning and will offer the opportunity to play smoothly.
Battlegroup Enhancements
The developers developed the “Warband” system so that different groups playing in a similar way can find and interact with each other. Wyatt Cheng stated that with the improvements made, these groups will support up to 8 players and the rewards won in Helliquary mode or dungeon raids will also be richer.
Set Items Enhancements
Senior System Designer Kris Zierhut shared many improvements made to the game’s system and gameplay. Stating that during the closed beta period, they implemented a new endgame gear system that allows filling secondary gear slots with set items, Zierhut stated that when enough gear belonging to a special set is worn, the characters can gain extra power-ups. Zierhut also stated that they are aware of the fact that the players want to collect special sets according to their playing styles and that they will add new and special set equipment in many styles to the game.
Cycle of Strife Game Mode and Paragon World System Improvements
Kris Zierhut stated that they made many improvements and changes to increase socialization in the game and to solve the problems experienced due to level differences. The structure of the Cycle of Strife game mode, one of the most popular content of the game, has been completely changed. The mod structure will now be based on clashes between clans fighting against each other, rather than a clash between dark houses and undead. In this game mode, which aims to increase both the gameplay process and the socialization among the clan members, after a clan is created, all its members will join the shadows. If a player’s dark clan defeats other clans and manages to defeat the undead, that clan will become the “Immortal Clan” and they will be able to take 2 different dark clans with them as “Immortal Allied Clans”.
Zierhut also stated that they have implemented a new “capture” system to equalize the experiences of low-level players with high-level players who spend a lot of time in the game. When players reach the maximum level, they will start earning Paragon levels that enhance their loot, allow progression through Paragon trees, make the character stronger and customized. Each server will have a Paragon level up two levels each day. If a player’s level is below this Paragon level, they will gain more experience points. However, if the player is more than four levels above the Paragon level, they will gain less experience points. Thus, the progress of the players will be synchronized. Also, higher level players will need to collect more materials to upgrade their equipment. Low-level players, on the other hand, will be able to progress faster with less material. Thus, teammates will not have to leave the game due to their character level and will be able to enjoy the game equally.
