It has been known since 2016 that Ubisoft wants to make a film about their epidemic shooter “The Division”. The main actors have also been confirmed for a long time: Jake Gyllenhall and Jessica Chastain. But now there’s bad news for the project, which was once planned as a movie but then switched to Netflix.
What do you know about the project??
With Corona, the film was “suddenly no longer fun”
What is the status of The Division movie in 2022? In an interview on the current film Violent Night, a kind of “die hard but with Santa Claus” says producer Kevin McCormick (via discussingfilm):
To be honest, when COVID hit we left The Division because it felt like it was a documentary. In the sense that the story is about an outbreak happening in real-time, the dangers involved and the anxiety it causes. It was like, “Woah, this isn’t fun anymore”.
So we literally had to deal with that in our own lives. I think we could get excited about that again, it’s such a cool thing and what you could do with the imagination of a team is actually fantastic. But in the end we decided to give it up because of Covid.
Film project for The Division is probably on hold for the time being
When asked if another production company took on the project, McCormick said:
I’ve heard it’s simmering for now, but I’m not sure.
So it sounds like the project is either dead or almost dead at the moment – after 2 years of pandemic an “exciting action movie with The Division” was probably not as attractive as before:
