“There’s a reason people like me that way”

Armand Duplantis will soon enter a new Olympic gold hunt.
Now the Swedish world star admits his innermost feelings.
– I have probably never been so nervous in my life, he says to SVT.

In just one month it will be time for Armand Duplantis to write new sporting history. Then the finest gold medal awaits him when the 2024 Summer Olympics are decided in Paris.

Duplanti’s favorite

“Mondo” is of course the super favorite for the Olympic gold and it is not about whether he will win but by how many centimeters he will win. But the Swedish world star is used to the favoritism these days.

With so many gold medals and world records behind him, there is a great calm that enters the 24-year-old’s body before the big highlight of the year.
– There’s a reason why people think I should win every competition I’m in. It’s because I kind of should. Because I know that I am at the level that I should jump over six meters every competition, he admits to SVT.

Mondo admits

But there were completely different feelings before the Olympic debut in Tokyo 2021 when a younger Duplantis also entered as gold favorite on the very biggest stage.
– You always feel pressure at competitions. That’s how it is when you’re the favorite and you’re expected to win every competition. But it feels good to have already won the Olympics. Nothing will ever be able to compare to what I felt in Tokyo, I have probably never been so nervous before a competition in my life, he says in the interview.
– So it feels like I put an end to all my nervousness there. It feels different now, which is good. Now I can jump more relaxed. I used all my nervousness then so I have never had the same feeling since. I’ve already done everything I dreamed of doing, now I can just enjoy the journey.

Instead of nervousness, Armand Duplantis looks forward to the Summer Olympics with joy and anticipation.
– Paris is an incredible and beautiful city. No other cities can really compare to it. Then throw the Olympics into that mix, it’s going to be chaotic. A beautiful chaos.
