A huge amount of used and unsold, new clothes are brought to Chile every year. Journalist Sara Salmi shows what kind of fast fashion graveyard a large part of clothes end up in.

In Chile, the Atacama desert has accumulated so much discarded clothing that the clothing store can be seen from space.

About 59,000 tons of used and unsold new clothes are imported to Chile every year. Clothes are imported from Europe, Asia as well as the United States and are traded in Chile.

Clothes that are not sold on are taken to an illegal dump in the desert. Textiles are not accepted for official landfills, as they contain chemicals and are not biodegradable.
