There’s a Forrest Gump remake coming with a superstar and this is what it looks like

Few roles are as closely associated with Tom Hanks as 1994’s Forrest Gump. After all, Robert Zemeckis’ literary adaptation is full of famous quotes and boxes of chocolates.

In India, however, they dared to do a remake and cast a real superstar in the lead role. Meanwhile it is new version of Forrest Gump finished and is called Laal Singh Chaddha. Even better: it even has a German theatrical release. The trailer hints at how Aamir Khan is doing in the story of the outsider who crosses important events in the story.

What is known about the Forrest Gump remake?

For two decades there have been plans for a Hindi remake of Forrest Gump. After Aamir Khan secured the rights to it in 2018, the film took a big step towards reality. It will be directed by fellow Khan’s Secret Superstar Advait Chandan, while Atul Kulkarni is adapting the screenplay by Eric Roth, which was in turn based on a novel by Winston Groom.

Khan is a superstar of Hindi cinemai.e. the Indian cinema in which Hindi is spoken (in contrast to films in Telugu or Tamil, for example) and which is known in this country under the name Bollywood.

The actor and producer has starred in some of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time including Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India, 3 Idiots and Dangal. In the remake he now plays the simple-minded Laal Singh Chaddha (Aamir Khan) who embarks on his exciting journey through modern Indian history and falls in love with Rupa (Kareena Kapoor).

When will Laal Singh Chaddha be in cinemas?

Instead of chocolates, there are gol gappa, flatbread balls, but otherwise the similarities to Forrest Gump in the trailer are unmistakable. In any case, Aamir Khan already proved in 3 Idiots and PK that he can play characters of this kind. In the trailer it is not even noticed that the good man is approaching 60 and still plays the much younger Laal.

Unlike many other Indian films, we don’t have to wait long for Laal Singh Chaddha to hit theaters. The German theatrical release is on August 11, 2022.
