A dishwasher is often running several times a day and efficiently cleans our plates and cutlery. But did you know that your dishwasher can be dangerous to your health? Regardless of whether it is at a restaurant or at school. It shows one study from the University of Zurich which was published on Thursday.
According to the study, many professional dishwashers do not perform any additional rinsing procedures to remove rinse aid from detergent tablets that may stick to the clean dishes.
Toxic rinse aid
The researchers at the Swiss Institute for Allergy and Asthma Research believe that there is a risk of the toxic rinse aid getting into the stomach and intestinal tracts. It can damage the body’s natural protective barrier and the development of intestinal tracts.
– It is particularly worrying that many appliances do not perform additional rinse cycles to remove fabric softener residues, says Cezmi Akdis, study author and researcher at the University of Zurich.
The protective barrier is disturbed
The research group then investigated how dangerous it is when the protective barrier gives way.
They concluded that diseases such as food allergies, obesity, MS, chronic depression, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease can be linked when the protective barrier is disturbed.
