They recommend using petroleum or oil to lubricate the rods on their bird feeder, to prevent squirrels from getting up and accessing the food.
“Bird feeders on top of metal posts can be lubricated to prevent squirrels from getting up on them. Try to smear oil or petroleum jelly on the metal bar to prevent them from grabbing it, then they will soon give up,” wrote Gardeners’ World Which too Express reported on.
