We have chosen to mask the video from the bus so that it is not possible to see the dogs or the dog owner. We get questions about this from your viewers. Some wonder why we don’t show more and others wonder why we show this gut-wrenching clip at all.
As a publicist, I always want us to be able to provide as much information as possible. What we know, we must tell and show. But within the ethical rules that all serious media follow – which say, among other things, that we should not expose people to unjustifiable publicity damage. In this case, the owner of the dog is visible on the film and I would violate our ethical rules if I showed him.
The film also contains images of the dogs which are very strong and unpleasant. Which is also the basis for masking the video.
But why show the film at all then, when it’s so terrible?
I believe it adds a lot to the publication and understanding of the event. We can see that the whole thing is actually filmed from inside the bus. We see that there are many people who have become witnesses and we see that it is a fast and shocking process. I think that is important information for our viewers.
