France withdraws its forces from Niger. According to SVT’s correspondent Johan Ripås, the situation in Niger has become increasingly untenable for France, with almost daily demonstrations outside the country’s military facility.
– The coup plotters have played a lot on the anti-French sentiment that exists in Niger, he says.
The military junta took power in the country at the end of July and since then tensions have also increased between Niger and the country’s former colonial power.
The French forces are also leaving Niger at a time when the security situation has become increasingly serious in other countries in the so-called Sahel region with more jihadist attacks.
