When winter is approaching, it usually means that electricity prices rise in most households.
But when 2025 arrives, new prices will prevail on the Swedish electricity market. This means that a whole bunch of households around the country are affected and risk getting much higher electricity bills.

Ellevio: Those customers are on the losing side
Swedish Radio reports that the electricity network company Ellevio will raise its prices from the turn of the year, when it completely changes its price model.
This can result in costs that rise significantly – at least for a group of people.
The big losers are the electric car owners who charge the car during the day at home. According to the radio channel, this could lead to costs increasing by several thousand kroner in 2025.
– Then you will probably be one of the customers who are on the losing side, says David Bjurhallwho is responsible for price issues at Ellevio, to SR.

The changed price model will mean that it will be decisive how big “peaks” you have in your consumption. The more and higher peaks, the more expensive the bill.
According to Sveriges Radio, the idea with this is to equalize the total consumption over the whole day.
Anyone who has an electric car with a charging post at home, and who charges during the day, can receive an electricity bill that is several thousand kroner more expensive in a year, compared to before. The reason is precisely the peaks you have in consumption, which controls the majority of the fee.
– It is true that if you charge fully, it will cost more. Then I think you should see if you have the opportunity to postpone this electric car charging to the nights when we have half the price.
When asked if it is reasonable to have higher costs if you want to be part of contributing to the transition in society, David Bjurhall says that they take that into account.
– We think we have taken this into account when we made it cheaper at night, he says to the channel.
On average, the change will result in an average increase of six percent for half a million households. Those who are mainly affected are villa customers in Värmland, southern Norrland, the west coast and Stockholm.
Before 2027, all electricity grid companies must have introduced such power charges.
