Part of the story of Joker 2: Folie à Deux revolves around the relationship between Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) and Lee aka Harley Quinn (Lady Gaga). There is always one TV movie mentioned, which was filmed about Arthur’s deeds from Part 1 and which Lee is said to have seen countless times.

Director Todd Phillips wanted to shoot a fake trailer for Joker 2 in order to incorporate scenes from it into the sequel. His plan sounds strange, but it couldn’t be implemented.

Joker 2 fake trailer with star from part 1 could not be realized

In an interview with IGN, the director revealed that he had planned a fake trailer for the TV movie about the Joker with actor Justin Theroux (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice). Neither of them had time to produce this material for the final film.

Theroux’s choice is no coincidence, as The Leftovers star had appeared as a guest in the first Joker named Ethan Chase on The Murray Franklin Show. But it was a very short scene that many people may not have even noticed.

Joker sequel almost featured four versions of the title character

If Phillips had implemented his idea, Joker 2: Folie à Deux would have featured a total of four versions of the Batman villain:

  • In the opening credits, the one animated joker in a Looney Tunes-like cartoon
  • Arthur Fleck himself
  • Arthur’s fellow inmate, who ends up killing him and putting the Joker grin on his face
  • Justin Theroux as Arthur in the TV movie within the movie
  • After Joker 2, fans shouldn’t wait for a third part. The seemingly final scene as well as the disappointing box office result, which makes the sequel a flop, make Joker 3 practically impossible.
