One Piece has not yet been officially renewed by Netflix. The live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s cult manga exceeded all expectations right from the start and is already one of the best series of the year. So an extension for season 2 is just a formality.

One of the producers behind the One Piece series now gave a hopeful message Update on season 2, which could start on Netflix sooner than expected. There’s only one problem.

In an interview with Variety, Marty Adelstein, CEO of One Piece production company Tomorrow Studios, reports that the Scripts for season 2 have already been completely written became. After fans had to wait forever for Season 1, everything could now happen very quickly, as Tomorrow Studio President Becky Clements reveals:

Somewhere between one year and 18 months we could be ready for publication.

Filming the first eight episodes took seven months. The series is filmed in South Africa. With finished scripts in their luggage, the cast and crew would be ready to get started straight away and enable a start as early as next year. However, there is an obstacle standing in the way.

The US actors union SAG-AFTRA has been on strike since July. As long as no agreement can be reached in this strike case, no filming can take place. If the strike ends promptly, One Piece Season 2 could be shown as early as 2024.

The script union WGA is also on strike. The production of One Piece is not affected by this. According to Adelstein, the scripts were probably completed before the strike began.

Currently there is one But the end of the Hollywood strike is not yet in sightwhich means the Netflix return of the Straw Hat Pirates Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), Nami (Emily Rudd), Sanji (Taz Skylar), Zorro (Mackenyu) and Usopp (Jacob Gibson) will probably wait until 2025.
