Godzilla is a toddler compared to this: The monster Grendel, that terrorizes the Danish king in the Beowulf myth has existed in manuscript form alone for more than 1,000 years, according to Encyclopedia Britannica. After countless adaptations, the fantasy hit Grendel will soon shed a completely new light on the horror creature. There is now a first picture from the production.

The Hollywood Reporter recently published an interview with director Robert D. Krzykowski (The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot) as well first images of the legendary monster from Grendel. This is a concept drawing and a template created on the computer. The famous puppet and animatronics company The Jim Henson Company (Muppets) is responsible for the physical creature design.
Grendel is considered one of the most anticipated fantasy films of the next few years. This is not least due to one thing first-class cast: The monster Grendel is played by The Big Lebowski star Jeff Bridges, and his adversary Beowulf is played by Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy). Breaking Bad main actor Bryan Cranston takes on the role of Danish King Hrothgar.
The Beowulf myth is a heroic saga in which the Gautic warrior Beowulf fights against the cruel monster Grendel to free Hrothgar and his people. However, the direct template for the film Grendel is the novel of the same name from 1971: there author John Gardner takes up the myth, but turns the monster into an antihero and asks questions about the nature of good and evil.
When will the fantasy epic Grendel come to the cinema?
Krzykowski’s fantasy film does not yet have an official release date. According to a Deadline report from May, which sets the start of production in 2024, we expect 2026 with the publication.
In addition to Bridges, Bautista and Cranston, Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit) can also be seen in front of the camera.
