In Ghana, one of the West African countries, two people from the same family died as a result of the deadly Margburg virus. Health authorities announced that 98 people in contact with these people are under quarantine.
Authorities announced that both patients died in a hospital in the Asanti region in the south of the country recently.
THERE IS NO TREATMENT
There is no cure for Margburg, which is similar to the virus that causes Ebola. However, doctors believe that drinking lots of water and treating certain symptoms improves a patient’s chances of survival.
It can pass from bats to humans, and it can be transmitted from person to person through bodily fluids, Margburg said.
HERE ARE THE SYMPTOMS SEEN
Some symptoms of the virus, which causes a severe illness that often kills the patient, are headache, fever, muscle aches, vomiting blood, and bleeding.
In Ghana, authorities are urging people to stay away from caves and cook all meat products thoroughly before consuming them.
The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the virus was seen more in Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, South Africa and Uganda.
The first Margburg epidemic was seen in Germany in 1967 and seven people died.
The Margburg virus killed more than 200 businesses in Angola in 2005.
According to the WHO, this was the deadliest Margburg virus outbreak on record.
