The clumsy Egyptologist Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) sees her chance to finally escape the library to look for treasures yourself, when her brother Jonathan (John Hanna) steals a secret treasure map from the adventurer Rick (Brendan Fraser). Together the three set out to find the legendary city of Hamunaptra. Unaware of the dangers hidden beneath the sand, they retrieve a millennia-old… cursed mummy with superhuman powers back to life.

The Mummy filming almost cost Brendan Fraser his life
For many millennials, Brendan Fraser was the Childhood hero and made one successful film after another, but the adventure films in particular demanded a lot from him physically. For George – Who Came Out of the Jungle he underwent such an extreme diet that he suffered from memory loss.
However, that’s a small sacrifice when you look at The Mummy filming that gave him almost cost his life would have. During the scene where he is about to be hanged in prison, his artery was clamped and he fainted. The star didn’t get much pity on set. His unintentionally authentic performance even made it into the finished film.
Despite all the hardships he repeatedly endured, Fraser’s career suddenly ended abruptly. As we now know, he was founded in 2003 by the then president of the HFPA, Philip Berk. sexually harassed. The industry swept the incident under the rug and Fraser was denied roles. It wasn’t until twenty years later that he succeeded with The Whale spectacular comeback including an Oscar win.
