There is an acute shortage of snuff here

A report from the Central Association for Alcohol and Narcotics Information (CAN) showed at the beginning of the summer that the percentage of Swedes who smoke snus – regardless of whether it is tobacco snus or white snus – reached a record level.

In 2023, every fifth of the respondents in the study, who were between the ages of 17 and 84, stated that they had smoked snuff in the last month. The vast majority also answered that they snorted daily.

Fire at the Swedish Match factory has caused problems

But during the spring, a fire occurred at the snuff manufacturer Swedish Match’s factory in Gothenburg, which led to some stores around the country experiencing delivery problems.

News24 has previously reported on how some stores in the Stockholm area had reduced access to snus. Now comes a similar alarm, but this time from Gotland.

In an interview with P4 Gotland several traders on the island state that there is an acute shortage of snuff.

– It is tough. It’s not funny at all, says a kiosk owner whose turnover is made up of 75 percent of snus sales:

– Between 20,000 and 40,000 kroner’s worth of snus is missing a week.

An ICA dealer on Gotland has also been affected.

– I get frustrated. Mostly for the customers, she tells the radio channel.

Swedish Match, which declined to participate in an interview with P4 Gotland, states in writing that the measures taken to help the delivery problems have yielded results. Stores as well as customers are therefore advised against bunkering products.
