The Covid-19 pandemic, which first appeared in our country in 2020, continues to continue its traces. According to the news of Ziyneti Kocabıyık from Türkiye Newspaper, experts point out that the virus cocktail we saw in the post-Covid period is on the scene again: “Although the patients filling the emergency rooms generally come with the same complaints, in our tests, the most common ones are Covid, flu, RSV, also known as respiratory syncytial virus, and “We see flu viruses,” he warns.
“ONE PERSON CAN MAKE TEN PEOPLE SICK”
Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology, Faculty Member Prof. said that there has been a visible increase in flu infections, although not yet at an epidemic level. Dr. İsmail Balık said, “We see this increase much more especially in places where people work in close contact with each other, such as workplaces. They are transmitted in a similar way to viruses that cause flu, cold and flu, as well as viruses such as Covid and Rhinovirus. They pass from one person to another through breathing. “When someone is sick in a workplace, one person can make ten people sick,” he said.
“STOMACH AND INTESTINAL COMPLAINTS MAY BE OBSERVED A LITTLE MORE”
Stating that the symptoms of diseases caused by respiratory viruses are generally common, Prof. Dr. Balık said, “Some symptoms are a little more severe or milder in some diseases. Generally, high fever (38 degrees and above), chills and chills, dry or persistent cough, sore throat, muscle and joint pain, fatigue and exhaustion, headache, runny or stuffy nose, sweating, chest discomfort and pressure, shortness of breath and Symptoms such as weakness, decreased appetite, sneezing, nausea and vomiting are observed. “Stomach and intestinal complaints may be slightly more common in the disease caused by Covid and RSV viruses,” he explained.
‘DO NOT MIX IN THE CROWD WITHOUT MASK’
Reminding that it is easy to detect which virus is causing the disease thanks to the respiratory panel test performed with a single sample, Prof. Dr. Balık said, “Which virus is the causative agent can only be understood through testing. If there is a sick person in a workplace, they should be sent for respiratory panel testing immediately. Thus, it can be understood which virus caused the disease. There is a cure for influenza and Covid.
If these drugs are given to other people who show symptoms of the disease at the beginning of the symptoms, the disease can be prevented before it becomes established. In this way, the disease is prevented from reducing work efficiency. There is no cure for RSV and cold. Those people should isolate themselves at home and wait for their illness to pass. “In the first days of symptoms, sick people should not mix with the crowd without a mask, should not hug, and should even avoid shaking hands,” he said.
