In Helldivers 2 you can use an Easter Egg to complete your missions faster. With a bit of luck, you’re already doing this.
What kind of Easter egg is this? There is an Easter Egg in Helldivers 2 that many players already use regularly without knowing it. Whoever uses it speeds up the completion of their mission.
The Easter egg in question is saluting when raising the flag. Many a loyal Over-Earth fighter already does this out of sheer pride in the nation, but the animation is useful not only in role-playing, but also because it increases the speed at which you actually raise the flag.
This works for all missions in which you have to raise a flag and is independent of the difficulty level selected. However, the sheer number of enemies makes saluting on higher difficulty levels correspondingly challenging.
The boss of Helldivers 2 explains why this mechanic works at all.
It all started with this trailer for Helldivers 2:
Helldivers 2 boss confirms the legend
What did the boss say? From the very beginning, many Helldivers saluted when raising the flag in the spirit of role play. However, the fact that this is intended to make the process faster was not the case right from the start, as Arrowhead Game Studios’ Chief Customer Officer, Johan Pilestedt, explains on Reddit.
Previously, Reddit user Sad-Needleworker-590 shared a video of himself saluting the flag despite fighting around him. He captioned his post, “After I learned that a salute makes the flag rise faster, I mostly did that.”
While other players claim that this is just superstition, the boss then spoke out personally. Johan Pilestedt refuted the claims that it was just superstition on Reddit: “No, that’s true. Everyone in the studio was doing it, so one of the programmers added it as an Easter egg.”
How much faster is it? It’s difficult to determine exactly, and the head of Helldivers 2 doesn’t reveal it in his message. According to user ShinCuCai on Reddit, the speed should increase by 15% for the first salute and 7.5% for each additional soldier saluting.
The fact that so many gamers play a role in a co-op shooter is probably due to the setting that Helldivers 2 cultivates from the start. It’s no wonder that the loyal fans and soldiers of Überearth are still keeping their game alive almost a year after its release. The next “part” is now coming for all fans of the brand: Millions of players fought in Helldivers 2 on Steam and PS5, now it will continue in the cinema
