“There is a high risk of that”

Stina Nilsson has said thank you and goodbye to biathlon.
Now a completely new sport awaits the Swedish skier.
And she may receive new, unexpected criticism for her decision.

Last week surprised Stina Nilsson everyone – again. Four years ago, she did it by leaving cross-country skiing to start a completely new sport: Biathlon.

Nilsson’s tough time

But it has been four very difficult years as a biathlete and Nilsson has had to deal with disappointments and enormous criticism. Nilsson reached the World Cup after only one season in her new sport, but she never managed to take the final step to reach the top of the world.

Stina was poked from both the World Cup and also the Biathlon World Cup several times and didn’t get it right at all. At the same time, the harsh words against her achievements became increasingly loud and widespread.

The new criticism

Therefore, the 30-year-old has closed that chapter to find joy in something new again. In the future, a full-hearted commitment to long-distance races awaits instead, and Nilsson will compete in Ski Classics this coming winter.

But she does not manage to get rid of the criticism against her. Now comes new and unexpected criticism also against her future career as a long-distance skier.
“Stina Nilsson is changing sports again. After the fiasco as a biathlete, there is a great risk that her investment in long-distance running will be a new barrier. Sure, she has been strong in classical skating and had a sharp sprint. But now she will stake for many miles – and then make a sprint,” writes the -journalist Johan Esk in a column on Dagens Nyheter.
