There are real surprise names for the Finnish World Championships in Athletics – chasing venues culminates in the Oulu rankings.

There are real surprise names for the Finnish World Championships

Many Finnish athletes still have good opportunities for the Eugene World Championships. Eveliina Määttänen and Heta Tuuri, who are fighting for the competition place, have never competed in adult competitions.

Many Finnish athletes have been chasing the results limits of the Eugene World Championships throughout the early summer, as well as valuable ranking points. The last moments of the weekend are at hand, as the showtimes end on Sunday.

Finns have a good seam to improve results and rankings in two-day rankings in Oulu. The competitions have the ranking value of the Kaleva competitions, so there are good ranking points in store.

Ten athletes have been nominated for the Finnish World Cup team. Spear thrower Oliver Helander and a hurdler Viivi Lehikoinen have violated the conversion threshold after designation. Endurance runner Sara Kuivisto announced its turn in mid-June to skip the World Cup.

Right now, 25 Finns would be able to compete if athletes who are within the ranking limit are included. For example, a three-jumper Simo Lipsanen would be stuck at the race venue, but he will miss the World Cup.

Fence runner Nooralotta Neziri is currently ranked 37th in the rankings. However, Nezir’s early season has been challenging, so it’s possible that an experienced athlete, like Lipsanen, will only aim for the European Championships.

– It may be that Nooralotta does not go behind the scepter from the start of 13.2, coaching manager of the Finnish Sports Confederation Tuomo Salonen notes.

Rankings are tense to the end

However, many Finns are close to the ranking qualifying for the World Cup. Such names include the 800-meter runner Eveliina MäättänenA 20 mile racer Enni Nurmijavelin thrower Toni Keränenhammer thrower Henri Liipola as well as a pole vaulter Tommi Holttinen.

At best, the final Finnish team could have more than 30 names. However, according to Salonen, it is more likely that the size of the team will be 20–23 athletes. His assessment is based on how many potential athletes have suffered from health problems.

– It would probably have been promised in March that Lotta KemppinenSara Kuivisto, Nooralotta Neziri, Annimari Korte and Simo Lipsanen are all on the team. In addition Camilla Richardsson had to refuse a marathon spot. There are six places in it that have had to bend. They would be pretty clear starters with normal performances.

– We have a large crowd that still gives screens. Depending on those successes, 20 to 23 athletes are very possible. If the poles are going very well, why not put a couple of seats on.

Salonen reminds that many other countries also have ranking competitions over the weekend.

– The points cannot be counted in such a way that Henri Liipola, a little-thrown hammer thrower, now throws 73 meters, is third and goes inside the nip button. Others throw elsewhere as well, Salonen says.

Adult value debut at the World Cup?

Currently, there are a few real surprise names near the World Cup. Such names are especially the high jumper Heta Tuuri and an 800-meter runner Eveliina Määttänen. Neither of them has competed in adult races before.

Tuuri is currently ranked 31st in the rankings, with 32 jumpers being admitted to the World Championships. Määttänen is currently 49th, the last athlete to be excluded from the World Cup.

When staring at a ranking, keep in mind that there may be some athletes ahead who have either been injured or quit altogether. For example, Tuurin ahead of Sweden Erika Kinsey has already ended his career.

In addition, not all athletes nominated for the competition will leave the World Cup arena, as Kuivisto has announced. In this case, the misfortune of another Finn is Määttänen’s happiness.

Salonen considers Määttänen’s World Cup opportunities to be good.

– Eveliina is in a pretty good condition. I think with a good level of running, he’s inside. I’m pretty confident about Evelina’s place.

The situation of luck, on the other hand, is more painful. A 27-year-old athlete must succeed well in Oulu. He jumped to a record 190 in the early summer, but since then the fitness curve has been declining.

However, there are opportunities as Russia and Belarus were shut down from international athletics due to Russian hostilities.

– High jump is a sport in which quite a few athletes would be involved in Russia and Belarus. The absence of these countries opens up some places for others, Salonen says.

Tuuri also has one advantage on his side.

– Last year, a similar ranking competition was held in Vaasa after Midsummer. It fits entirely into Oregon’s time window. The Vaasa ranking competition is Heta’s best points competition.

– The view is reasonable. However, Heta is one of those who needs to collect points this weekend, at least for the sake of certainty. He is required to have a reasonable or basic good result, Salonen adds.
