There are going to be big changes to the Netflix TV application! The streaming platform is testing a new interface for its home page, with a better presentation of its content.

Netflix’s interface is a template for different streaming platforms. Whether it’s Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+ or the new additions TF1+ and M6+, most SVODs are inspired by the big red N. Also, when the latter makes the slightest modification, he does so with the greatest caution, especially since subscribers do not necessarily like their little habits being tampered with. In press conference, Netflix has however announced that it is working on redesigning the home page of its TV application. And suffice to say that this could well be the biggest visual modification in years!

Netflix interface: a transformed presentation of content

The current home page of the Netflix TV app features tiles for each show, movie and series, aligned horizontally within different categories (New Releases, Critically Acclaimed US Political Series, European Series on Friendship, Nugget for you, Current Trends…), among which you navigate with your remote control. As you pause on each tile, trailers or previews and additional information appear at the top of the screen.

With the new interface, tiles become expandable and expand when the remote’s cursor stops on them. Netflix then begins to broadcast a short preview of the work and displays additional information, such as the synopsis, year of release, genre and number of episodes (within the series) directly in the tile. This avoids having to go up to the top of the screen.

Currently, a sidebar on the left provides access to the search box, categories, lists, settings and other tabs. The new interface removes this menu and replaces it with a smaller selection at the top of the screen. There we now find the “Home”, “Shows” and “Films” tabs. The “New Releases” and “My List” categories are grouped together in the new “My Netflix” tab, which is already present on the mobile application. Everything is located under the search bar, which is highlighted more.

This new version of the Netflix TV application is currently being tested by a small number of subscribers. Depending on feedback, Netflix indicates that it could deploy the new interface on a larger scale “in the months and quarters to come”.
