It is and remains a noble up and down with Bridgerton. First the third season is followed by a mini-series from Throne of the Netflix charts only to climb it again with part 2 – and now the latest season of an animated sci-fi comedy sneaks into first place.
We’re talking about Rick and Morty, which has been providing crazy stories in multiple dimensions with borderline humor and satirical sci-fi elements for seven seasons now.
What is Rick and Morty, the sci-fi series that knocked Bridgerton off the number one spot on the Netflix charts?
In Rick and Morty, the brilliant but rude scientist Rick Sanchez takes his clumsy teenage grandson Morty Smith on all sorts of adventures that are difficult to explain and justify. With his portal gun, Grandpa Gates to different dimensionswhich sometimes differ from our world in only one element, but often represent completely unimaginable realities.
How crazy the Sci-fi adventures of the duo Season 1 makes it clear from the start that they will be together. In the pilot episode, Morty has to smuggle valuable seeds from a foreign world through alien customs. In episode 2, his dog, made more intelligent by Rick, takes over the world. And in episode 3, they travel shrunken into the interior of a homeless man whose organs have been converted into an amusement park.

Later it turns out that countless Ricks from different dimensions a whole Rick society in a huge space station called the Citadel. And the family around Rick’s daughter Beth, including her boring husband Jerry and annoyed daughter Summer, are becoming more and more involved. The episodic fun thus becomes more complicated over time and longer-lasting storylines become more and more self-referential.
Rick and Morty episodes often parody famous and cult science fiction films and series, but never stay on the surface. Many of the gags reward in-depth genre knowledge and you can see: series creator Dan Harmon and his co-creator Justin Roiland, who also voiced the two title characters until season 6, know what they are doing.
Roiland is no longer on board after allegations of domestic violence, so the English original version of Rick and Morty sounds a little different from season 7 onwardsIan Cardoni can now be heard as Rick and Harry Belden as Morty. In the German version it is still Kai Taschner and Tim Schwarzmaier.

At Moviepilot Rick and Morty ranks 9th in our ranking of the best science fiction series of the millennium so far. And the crude cartoon comedy for adult nerds has also enjoyed great popularity since 2013. After the third season, it was so popular that the US broadcaster Adult Swim ordered an incredible 70 more episodes. The future of the series is currently secure until season 10.
