The handmade effects, the huge cast and the dark mood make Philip Kaufman’s film adaptation the best for me. The story continues to impress, so a Body Snatcher remake is scheduled to appear again in 2025.
The great horror lies in the creeping infiltration
There are two types of alien invasions. Either flying saucers land on Earth and immediately attract the public’s attention. Or that Invasion takes place in secret. The Body Eaters Are Coming plays with secret infiltration and the fact that everyone could already be an alien – or not.
People who were recently trusted could now be creatures intent on exterminating us. The fear of humanity’s extinction becomes tangible in a small group of people in the big city of San Francisco. The absolute A-cast immerses us deeply in this feeling and makes it a must-see film for all science fiction and sci-fi horror fans.
But the copies, i.e. the aliens, are no perfect imitations. They stand out in the crowd because they lack basic human qualities. They are cold, emotionless and therefore completely unempathetic. In this sense, The Body Eaters Are Coming is also a plea for humanity. Ultimately, we are afraid of the inhumanity of the aliens.
The film is an absolute cult horror that will leave you trembling with fear. At Amazon you can rent the best of the Body Snatcher film adaptations in HD for 3.96 euros.
