Then your hunting gear may stop working

In this, a phasing out of the 2G and 3G network in Sweden is now underway. This is because the newer mobile networks, 4G and 5G, require more frequency space.

When the old mobile networks are gradually shut down, which will last until the end of 2025, certain electronics will also lose important functions.

For example, some cars are at risk of being impounded, while alarms, mobile phones and robotic lawnmowers may stop working as they should.

Hunting equipment can stop working when old mobile networks are switched off

A few more gadgets that may be affected when the old mobile networks are switched off are equipment used in hunting, for example dog beacons or rear view cameras, which the store chain Jaktia has noticed.

“It is time to check in good time which mobile network(s) your dog beacons or tracking cameras can be connected to. Otherwise, there is a risk that during an upcoming hunt you will discover that you have no contact with one or more of the dogs or miss when the game visits the feedlot and enters the den,” they write in a report.

The company has also spoken to some suppliers, Lafayette and Natlink, which produce GPS transmitters, about how their products will be affected when the 2G and 3G network is shut down.

According to Jens QarlssonCEO at Lafayette, their transmitters can switch between the old and new cellular networks, and newer products are adapted to work flawlessly on the 4G and 5G network.

Natlink CEO Boss Setterberg states that the products they sell today support the new mobile networks. They will, for a certain time in the future, continue to repair and service their older dog trackers, which use second and third generation mobile networks.

– Of course, you have to decide for yourself whether you think it’s worth fixing these products or whether you should perhaps check for a new gauge that runs on the newer networks instead, he says to Hunting and continues:

– At the same time, it is important to be observant, because the 2G and 3G networks are gradually being switched off in different parts of the country. So it may be that there are gauges that already today do not work in some parts of the country.
