Children need to rest
Relaxing and giving yourself time for rest and recovery is important for the child to cope with the school term that follows.
– It is important to reduce the risk of ending up in stress problems, which in turn can lead to mental illness. The focus should be precisely on recovery and not on performance or the needs of young people, she tells the newspaper.

Children need time that is not scheduled. Leisure time together with those with whom you have the strongest attachment relationships.

Not being free when all the other children are free can become a problem, says Jenny Klefbom. They notice what is normal, and how they themselves stand out. Then you start longing for what other children have.
In the long run, this can lead to children ending up in social exclusion, she believes.

The risk is great that you see other children being picked up – and interpret that as your parents not loving you as much. It can lead to a social stigma.
Talk to your child about why you work
If you have to leave preschool or after-school because you have to work yourself, it’s not like you should have a bad conscience.
But you have to tell your child about it. They understand that parents have to work, but that requires explaining it to them.
“Then you have to feel guilty”
But Jenny Klefbolm doesn’t think leaving on free time to relax or run errands is particularly heartwarming.
– It’s not okay, then you have to feel guilty. Then you disqualify yourself as a parent and underestimate your child’s need to be with their parent.
