“Then you get rid of everything like that”

Jonas Andersson is tired of filming.
The SVT expert now wants to see drastic measures in the form of a rule change.
– There is no reason to remain on the ice, and it destroys, says Andersson in SVT’s “Hockey evening”.

Jonas Andersson, 42, is a former hockey player. The Stockholm native spent the majority of his career in Finland’s highest division, the SM-liiga, and in the SHL (then the Elitserien). Andersson played in clubs such as Södertälje, Brynäs, Finnish Ilves, Oulun Kärpät, and Dynamo Minsk. Today he is an expert commentator for SVT in the channel’s hockey broadcasts.

Loob’s referee criticism

On Thursday evening, Rögle and Skellefteå met at Catena arena. It was a special situation from the match that was discussed in SVT’s “Hockey evening”. Rögles Valtteri Viljanen got a tackle from Skellefteås Oscar Lindberg, and then remained on the ice. But after a while, Viljanen was able to get up and get to the box on his own, and the experts agreed that the player was unharmed after the tackle.

Håkan Loob believes that it is the responsibility of the referees not to blow when it is obvious that the player is not seriously injured.
– I think the problem is that the referee should not blow for less than he thinks there is danger, real danger, for a serious injury. But here you can clearly see, it’s not, so actually I don’t think the referee should blow the game off, says Loob in the program.

Andersson’s rule proposal

Jonas Andersson goes against Loob and puts the responsibility on the players.
– He must be able to stand up and finish playing that change. That the referee blows – I agree to some extent that the referee should not blow – but I think it is wrong to focus on the referee in this case. I think it’s the fault of the players, and there are many SHL players who have done this. I think that is something that should be reviewed. Last year there was a huge move against filming, he says.

Program manager Dušan Umicević asks Andersson if it is therefore a filming from Viljanen.
– Absolutely. It is reinforcement. Then I would like a rule change as well: If you remain on the ice, then you are not allowed to play any more during that period. Then you would remove all that stuff.
– If I’m going to deepen that a bit, you’re in so much pain that you can’t get to the booth, then something is broken, then you can’t play anymore anyway. Then you say – head tackles, yes, but if you’ve had a head tackle that keeps you down, then you shouldn’t play any more in that period anyway. Then you have to come in and make a protocol to see if you can play. So there is no reason to remain on the ice, and it destroys, says Jonas Andersson.
