The slippery road conditions in the country have caused several accidents in the country during Sunday. In Södertälje, an accident occurred at half past seven on Sunday morning. A man was killed when a truck carrying construction timber ran off the highway. The accident is being investigated as negligence in traffic and drunk driving.
A man in his 80s has died after an accident between a car and a truck on route 56 in the vicinity of Tillberga outside Västerås on Sunday morning.
In Östergötland, a tanker truck with sulfuric acid was derailed on E22 and ended up in the ditch at the height of Syntorp, reports P4 Östergötland. Even further south there have been problems. On the E22 north of Fårbo in the municipality of Oskarshamn, a truck with a trailer overturned, according to P4 Kalmar.
Warning: The road conditions are treacherous
Bengt Olsson, press manager of the Swedish Transport Administration, warns that it is difficult in traffic right now when the temperature fluctuates up and down.
There are warnings of sudden slippage in parts of Dalarna, Värmland and Gävleborg.
– It is very surprising. There are very different surfaces on the road, he says.
When the weather changes quickly, the road conditions become treacherous.
– That will play tricks on many. You feel safe when you feel that you have solid ground under your feet or a solid road under your car’s tires. But then comes this change. It does not have to be the case that the entire road space is like that. A few slippery spots may be enough.
That’s how you should think
He also warns of animals finding their way onto the roads now that the snow is melting fastest there.
– There is no rocket science when it comes to this. It’s just a matter of lowering the speed and increasing the distance to those in front and trying to keep these distances so that you have a chance to react something in time.
When the truck drove into the ditch on E4 on Sunday, things happened all around, he points out.
– So you have to have time to react. If you drive too close, you don’t stand a chance. Keep your distance and slow down and it will be just fine this Christmas.
