Then you cannot pledge your cans

Earlier in January, Returpack / Pantamera announced that the deposit will be increased in September 2025. Despite the fact that Sweden is the world leader in terms of deposit, they simply want to involve even more Swedes.

Then you must deposit your old cans at the latest

Something that most people don’t know is that you can’t wait as long as you want to make a deposit. In an earlier interview with News24 Returpack / Pantamera confirms that it is not possible to deposit cans and bottles that were purchased more than two years ago, something they also write on their website:

“The item must be active. A bottle or jar gives a deposit for two years after the sale of the product has ceased.”

When can you not make a reservation?

A common perception is that it is not possible to deposit if the barcode is destroyed and thus cannot be read by the deposit machine. But it turns out that it is enough for the can or bottle to change shape in a way that means the machine cannot read what type of product it is.

    – The deposit machines cannot handle bottles and cans that are too damaged – this as it is a combination of material, shape, weight and barcode that must be correct, says Sara Barthelson Riismarkcommunications manager at Returpack / Pantamera, to Nyheter24, and continues:

    – It is important that the machines can determine that it is the “right” packaging that is passing through, so that material that cannot be handled does not enter the flow.
