Then you can draw a general pension – it applies to your cohort

Then you can draw a general pension it applies

In Sweden, there is a so-called reference age that governs at what age you get access to the various parts that are included in the general pension.

This standard age is adapted based on the rising average life expectancy in Sweden and is intended to prevent pensions from becoming lower as Swedes get older on average.

How is the target age for the national pension determined?

The target age is determined each year, but it is not used until six years later. For example, the Riksdag has decided that the target age, between 2020 and 2023, is 67 years. But this is not applied until between 2026 and 2029.

“The minimum age to draw a public pension is three years before the target age, i.e. at the earliest from the age of 64 when the target age is 67. This means that you who were born in 1963 or later will be able to draw a public pension at the age of 64 at the earliest,” writes the Swedish Pensions Agency.
