Then the storm Kirk will come to you

Then the storm Kirk will come to you

Autumn has arrived, which resulted in both wind and rain alternately in several parts of the country.

Now it could get even worse when the storm Kirk is expected to move into Sweden during the week.

Currently, Storm Kirk is in the middle of the Atlantic where it is gathering strength and is expected to move in over Spain and Portugal during the beginning of the week.

It is expected to reach Sweden soon.

– Tropical Cyclone Kirk will arrive on Thursday morning and move up over southern Sweden. Then it continues north during Friday, where a lot of rain falls in several places in the country at the same time as there is strong wind, says SMHI’s meteorologist Matthias Lind to News24.

As this week’s weather forecast will show several guises, Nyheter24 has spoken to Mattias Lind to find out where in the country the weather will be the worst and where Cyclone Kirk will bite. And it turns out that two warnings have already been issued.

– Generally speaking, we have some really low-pressure days ahead of us. The first low pressure is already now on its way north and what stands out is that from northern Jämtland to the northern parts of Västerbotten and Norrbotten counties there may be a lot of snow from today (Monday ed. note) until tomorrow evening. Then we’re talking up to ten centimeters, he says and continues:

– We have two warnings issued, partly in the mountains for wind in combination with snow and then a warning for wind around the Lapland mountains. There will also be a lot of snow in northern Norrland, but nothing around the coastal region.

Then the storm will be filled with more rain starting from the south over large parts of the country.

– During Wednesday, the amounts will increase in above all the eastern landscape from eastern Götaland, Svealand and parts of Norrland’s coast where locally up to 50 millimeters of rain can fall.

There is a lot of rain that the storm brings in with it. But with the tropical weather that prevails in the storm Kirk, temperatures can also rise in several places.

– There won’t be any extremely hot temperatures, but it could still be somewhere around 10-15 degrees in southern Götaland. Up to Västerbotten, it can be roughly 10-12 degrees, compared to the three degrees that prevail before and after Kirk pulls past, Lind asserts.

When the weather hits some parts of the country hard, there are other places where it is much milder. Despite the fact that pretty much the whole of Sweden gets to taste a major change in weather, the big cities generally manage to avoid Kirk’s advance.

– In the big cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö, the temperatures will be around ten degrees, at most up to 15 degrees, for pretty much the whole week. There will be some really rainy and windy days, but Cyclone Kirk will not significantly affect the big cities, Lind confirms for Nyheter24.
