Then the risk of getting sick from stress in mid-life is greatest

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The risk of suffering long-term sickness absence is higher the older we get, at least generally speaking. But that doesn’t always apply. Long-term sick leave for mental health diagnoses stands out in the statistics.

Instead, the risk is highest in mid-life, and mainly for women in their forties. The most common cause of long-term sickness absence with a mental diagnosis for the age group 36 to 45 years is reaction to severe stress, according to a new report from Afa Insurance.

This can mean, among other things, that people suffer from exhaustion syndrome and other stress reactions.

The report is based on a review of over 160,000 insurance cases between the years 2018 and 2020 with long-term sickness absence for more than 90 days and where Afa Försäkring has paid compensation.
