On October 1, Iran attacked Israeli military bases in what was described as revenge for Israel killing Hamas and Hezbollah leaders. Israeli warplanes responded in turn with strikes against several locations in Iran on 26 October, destroying key military facilities.
In recent days, the tone in the Middle East has been raised another notch and the rest of the world is holding its breath in the face of further escalation of the war.
On Saturday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei gave a speech, in which he threatened Israel and the United States with a “crushing response” to attacks on Iran and its allies.
– The enemy, whether it is the Zionist regime or the United States, will definitely feel a crushing response for what they are doing to Iran, the Iranian nation and the resistance front, he said in the speech broadcast on state Iranian media.
Khamenei gave no details on the timing or scope of his speech.
The US has contacted Iran
The latest move has prompted the US to come up with threats of its own. On Sunday reported Axios that the US has warned Iran to launch another retaliatory attack against Israel, stressing that the Americans will not be able to deter Israel from responding forcefully.
– We have told the Iranians: We will not be able to hold Israel back, and we will not be able to ensure that the next attack is as well-balanced as the last one, an American official told the newspaper.
According to the American source, the message is to be conveyed directly to Iran. However, the Israeli official states that a message was sent from Washington to Tehran through Switzerland.
Sources: Then comes the attack
The White House has declined to comment on the data. Iran has also not commented, according to the newspaper.
A possible Iranian attack could now be very close. According to an Iranian source to The Wall Street Journal should the retribution take place after Tuesday’s US election.
The planned attack is described as “powerful and complex”. Diplomats in the region who have seen the plans mention, among other things, that stronger and more advanced robots than before will be used, writes WSJ.
Previous information has claimed that Iran’s attack is expected to come before the election.
