Almost time for the NHL.
Then Elias Pettersson gets a big tribute – in the form of being promoted as potential MVP.
With a catch.
Elias Pettersson, 24, came up as a youngster in Timrå IK. After two seasons with the club in the Hockeyallsvenskan, he moved on to the Växjö Lakers. In the SHL, it was only one season before the relocation team went to the USA and the NHL. Pettersson joined the Vancouver Canucks, who drafted the Swede fifth a year earlier.
Pettersson’s advance
The forward quickly made an impression at the club, then as a 20-year-old. At the end of the 2018/2019 season, it was clear that Pettersson would participate in the NHL’s All Star game at the end of January that year. Since then, the 24-year-old has grown in and established himself as an important player for Vancouver.

Today, Pettersson is seen as one of Sweden’s best hockey players, and it became a big deal that the player could not accompany Sweden to the WC last winter. It was because the national team could not afford the star player’s insurance. Which in turn was due to the fact that Petterson, after Erik Karlsson, is the best paid Swede in the NHL.

The expert’s sick tricks
Last season, the Vancouver Canucks finished sixth in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. When the club will now enter the next season, Pettersson is seen as one of the most important players. The most important one, even.
– If they make it to the playoffs, I think Elias Petterson can be MVP, says the former hockey player Ryan Whitney on the ‘Spittin’ Chiclets’ podcast.

His podcast colleagues are shocked, but the former NHL player, who also made a short stint in Modo, stands his ground.
– If they make the playoffs, I think he’ll be there, says Whitney.
The play comes two weeks before the 2023/2024 NHL season kicks off on October 10.
