Last summer there was queuing chaos at Arlanda with long queues for the security check and the check-in counters. Now it risks getting even worse this year. The Transport Workers’ Union announced the conflict at the end of the week.
Will not agree
The reason is that the trade union and their counterpart on the employer’s side, Almega, have not agreed on the guarding and safety agreement.
– In the desire to get more than everyone else on the Swedish labor market, Transport does not just threaten people’s holidays, says Richard Orgårdunion director at Almega Säkerhetsföretagen to The Express.
The notice is structured in different parts. The first part starts on the night of Wednesday 28 June at 00:00 and is a blockade among 160 companies and affects 20,000 employees.
The second part involves a total stoppage of work – that is, a strike. First up is Bromma and Landvetter Airport on July 3. There, everything related to the security check will be affected.
– No one will be able to come up with the plan there, says Tommy Wreeth, union chairman in Transport.
No checked baggage on the trip
Two days later it is Arlanda’s turn. There, X-ray machines, goods controls and gate receptions are affected – which will be unmanned. Larger bags will not be able to be taken on board the plane.
– It will not be possible to get checked luggage on the pitch, Wreeth continues.
Arlanda does not welcome the news happily.
– The hope is that the parties will come to an agreement and resolve this so that we can avoid a strike that could have major consequences for our travelers. We prefer not to do that when so many people want to go out and travel, says Swedavia’s press communicator Frida Jones to Expressen.
Mediators have been appointed and new negotiations will begin on Tuesday.
