The astroid, which is called “2024 YR4”, was discovered by an automated telescope in Chile in December last year. Subsequently, the asteroid has been at the top of the list of celestial bodies that pose a potential danger to the earth.

How dangerous is the asteroid?
If the asteroid were to collide with the soil, it could cause major damage, especially if it hits a city. However, it is not large enough to wipe out humanity.
As a result of the risk, the UN has activated two global expert groups working to track the asteroid and develop possible defense measures. One solution could be to push away the asteroid using a spaceship – a method that has been tried earlier.

Then the asteroid can crash with the earth
According to the European Space Agency ESA, there is a risk that the asteroid collide with the earth just before Christmas by 2032. However, the probability that this occurs is small – only 1.3 percent.
Despite this, the researchers take the threat seriously and the asteroid is ranked as a third on the Torino scale – a measurement system that grades the risk of collisions with the soil from zero to ten.
Anders ErikssonHowever, which is a researcher at the Institute of Space Physics, believes that the risk of collision will be even lower when you get better assessments of the asteroid’s course.
– When measuring the asteroid’s course better and better, it is most likely that the risk of collision will first increase, but then decrease to zero percent, he says in an interview in Science Radio.
