Stolen vehicle investigation leads to arrest

On Friday, a man was walking on St. Clair Street in Chatham when he allegedly entered an unoccupied utility vehicle and fled.

Chatham-Kent police said witnesses were able to block the suspect’s vehicle and he fled on foot. Responding officers were able to apprehend the suspect and despite his alleged attempts to conceal his identity, he was identified.

The man was charged with theft and possession of stolen property over $5,000 and obstructing police. He was also found to have an outstanding warrant. The man was released with a short date.

Impaired charge following collision

Police responded to a single-vehicle collision in Chatham on Friday.

A vehicle had jumped the curb of a roundabout at the end of a residential street and became stuck, with police attending.

The driver was believed to be impaired and taken to headquarters for breath tests.

However, the driver allegedly refused a legal demand to provide samples, police said. The driver was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample. He was released with a short date.
