The head of Energoatom, Petro Kotin, previously said that Russia has drawn up a detailed plan on how it will disconnect the nuclear power plant from the Ukrainian grid.
The Ukrainian energy company Energoatom, which operates the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, says that the plant’s two reactors have been disconnected from the Ukrainian power grid due to damage to the power lines caused by the fire.
According to the company, the power plant’s safety systems are working normally and at least the second reactor is being tried to be connected back to the power grid as quickly as possible. Energoatom has previously warned that disconnecting the reactors from the power grid would endanger the operation of the cooling systems.
The power plant is located in southern Ukraine in an area held by Russian forces. According to Energoatom, disconnection from the network is caused by “attacker activity”.
Director of Energoatom Petro Kotin the British newspaper previously reported For The Guardian (you are switching to another service)that according to the information received by the company, Russia had drawn up a detailed plan on how to disconnect the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant from the Ukrainian grid.
Kotinin said that Energoatom got hold of a plan drawn up by Russian engineers for the reconnection of the nuclear power plant. According to Kotin, the plant’s employees showed the plan to Energoatom after the Russian troops had presented it.
According to the plan seen by Kotin, the reconnection would be done if the fighting damages the nuclear power plant’s connections to the Ukrainian grid. Kotin said in the news published by The Guardian on Wednesday that he fears that Russia will try to implement this very threat next.
