Taylor Sheridan has now finished the western. Not only did he explore the genre from the present in the five seasons of Yellowstone. With the spin-offs 1883 and 1923 he even delved into the past of the Dutton family and explored the myth of America, land of supposedly unlimited opportunities.
His latest project, which he created for the streaming service Paramount+, is also about land and possibilities. The series Landman takes you to West Texas, where liquid gold is springing up from the ground. At the center of the story is Billy Bob Thornton as a crisis manager for an oil company.

Landman is based on the Boomtown podcast serieswhich was created by Christian Wallace and focuses on true stories from the oil business in Texas. In addition to Sheridan, Wallace is listed as a co-creator on the series. Perhaps the two have created the There Will Be Blood of the blockbuster era.
The cast is definitely remarkable. For Billy Bob Thornton, who guest-starred for one episode in 1883, Landman marks the biggest series role since Amazon’s Goliath. Meanwhile, Mad Men star Jon Hamm has the next major project to add to his repertoire, having most recently appeared in Fargo and The Morning Show.
The ensemble also includes Demi Moore (The Substance), Ali Larter (Resident Evil), Michael Peña (Ant-Man) and Andy Garcia (Ocean’s Eleven). Even for a Sheridan series, that’s a lot of big names. In the words of Jurassic Park founder John Hammond: “No expense or effort spared.”
Sheridan has previously pitched the following series:
