At Patholmsviken’s boat club outside Umeå, the marine archaeologists from the Museum of Wrecks dive 35 meters below the surface and check out the new wreck find. The steamboat says “London” and the year “1877”.
Wrecks dating from 1850 or earlier are automatically antiquities protected by law. But the County Administrative Boards can make exceptions – which marine archaeologist Maria Lindberg wants them to do.
– It will be forbidden to destroy it, loot and so on, she says.
