The worst ranking in seven years

The Swedish football men are raging in the world rankings. On the International Football Association FIFA’s latest list, Sweden drops three places: from 23rd to 26th place.

It is the national team’s worst record in seven years. In 2016, they were parked in place 41. The loss comes after a lean football year and another missed championship. Sweden will not play this summer’s European Championships in Germany after failing to qualify.

Jan Andersson leaves his post as national team captain at the turn of the year. Who will take over is not yet clear.

The next task will be to try to get to the WC 2026.
