Bobi showed that old is oldest.

Now he is both dead and without a record title.

Bobi was said to be 30 years and 268 days old when he was named the world’s oldest dog and entered the Guinness Book of Records nine months ago.

Last October he died and it was said at the time that he was 31 years and 165 days old.

But now in January, the Guinness Book of Records launched an investigation into the Portuguese dog. There was doubt about the stated age – despite the age being confirmed by the Portuguese government’s pet database and the National Veterinary Union, writes Sky News.

Bobi was a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo. It is normally 12–14 years.

From the record book side, they say that Bobi’s microchip was significant in determining the age, but now it turns out that chips that were inserted before 2008 did not require proof of age for the dogs.

– We have no unequivocal proof that can definitely prove when Bobi was born, says Guinness CEO Mark McKinley about Bobi getting rid of the record.
