The world’s oldest dog Bobi is dead

On May 11, 1992, a Rafeiro do Alentejo named Bobi was born in an outhouse with his three siblings in the Portuguese village of Conqueiros. But Bobi’s owner already had “too many animals” – and the puppies were to be euthanized.

But he had other plans.

Escaped to its current owner

Bobi escaped and ended up with Leonel Costa’s family in the Portuguese countryside. He came to live there for the rest of his life.

Hussen Leonel was only eight years old when his best friend came to the family.

He tells Sky News that Bobi always ate the same food as the rest of the family. He was best in the open and was never tethered.

Beat record from 1939

In February earlier this year, he was awarded as the world’s oldest dog by Guinness World Records. Now he has died – 31 years old, reports Sky News.

– Despite the fact that he has outlived all dogs in history, his 11,478 days on earth will never be enough for those who loved him, says Bobi’s veterinarian to the news channel.

The world’s oldest dog that was noticed before Bobi died in 1939 and was 29 years old.

The life expectancy of a rafeiro do alentejo is between 12 and 14 years.

The date of birth is confirmed by the Portuguese government pet registry and by the organization National Union of Veterinarians.
