Etna Volcano, at an altitude of 3,357 meters, spewed lava and ash throughout the night. All flights to Catania, in eastern Sicily, were suspended as of 20:00 local time.
CRITICAL WARNING FROM THE GOVERNOR!
The Governor of Catania, Enrico Trantino, announced that motorcycles and bicycles were banned in the city for 48 hours as the streets were covered with ash, and recommended that cars not go faster than 30 kilometers per hour.
IN 1992 THERE WAS A BIG EXPLOSION
Known as Europe’s largest and most active volcano, Mount Etna was last active in May, spewing lava and ash, and all flights in the region were cancelled. The last major eruption of the volcano was in 1992. (UAV)
