The launch of the ship was successful at first, but then a deviation occurred.
The world’s first 3D-printed ship failed to reach Earth’s orbit early Thursday Finnish time.
The purpose of the unmanned Terran 1 craft would have been to collect data and demonstrate that the 85 percent 3D-printed rocket can withstand the demands of liftoff and spaceflight.
The launch of the ship was successful at first, but then a deviation occurred that prevented the rocket from entering orbit. More detailed information about the deviation was not recently received.
The launch was now attempted for the third time in the United States from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Previous launch attempts had to be interrupted due to technical problems.
Although the craft did not reach orbit, the successful launch proved the requirements of a 3D-printed rocket for sustainable takeoff.
The background behind the experiment is Relativity Space, a Californian aviation startup company.
Attempts were also made to launch the ship at the beginning of March. Watch the video (March 7, 2023):
